Hello 2010!
After a few weeks of the offseason, it feels good to be back to golf again! I’ve made the move from Ohio to Orlando, FL and the green grass in January is a beautiful site. I’ve got a busy schedule ahead of me this winter preparing like a mad woman to go for my LPGA card this year. It’s not going to be easy. Not only will it takes hours of practice, but physical strength, mental game, course strategy, and learning how to deal with life in general as a professional golfer. So keep your head down and don’t cry over spilled milk!!!
A very wise man once told me (my dad), “Once you stop searching and learning, your career is over.” Although I had a pretty solid season last year, I made so many mistakes! Looking back, some of them seem so obvious too…seriously WHAT was I thinking? Well, this is the time to reflect and plan how to change things this time around.
For example, I started off the season with a BANG last year working out 3-4 times per week. Hi-YA! Take that, competition! Seriously though… by the third tournament I was lucky to work 1-2 times per week. Everybody wave goodbye to those six pack abs! Bye bye! But it’s a new year, and I have two solutions.
I need to be in better shape to start the season, so hitting the gym will be like second nature. I’ve done the p90x workout program this winter, and feel fabulous! It’s a tough program where you work out six days per week for 90 days. I’ve already lost 6% bodyfat…ooOoOOo hello abs, I’ve missed you…
Also, I was tired a lot last season because
I was WAY too stressed about my golf game. Whenever I had a bad round, it was like the sky was falling down! 3-putt? Ahhh!!!! I’ve noticed that stressful days will make you feel HORRIBLE the next day! You seriously wake up and say, “Who hit me??” Sometimes stress is too much for the body to handle. So let’s say this together, “I will not stress over my golf game, I will not stress over my golf game…I love me
” After all this hard work and obvious improvements over the last few years, I know that I’m going to make it. So what’s all the screaming about?
As for my golf swing, I have BIG news! I’m working with Phil Ritson this winter!!! That’s definitely something to be excited about. He is also teaching Misun Cho , and led her to a top 5 finish on the Futures Tour last year. We will be working together five days per week to get my game ready to shine. This biggest challenge is getting more speed through impact so I can destroy the ball. My short game is super solid, so If I can hit the ball like a million yards… I’ll be good to go.
Okay, honest time…..I had a rough tournament in December. I made it all the way to LPGA QSchool finals, and missed status by a few shots. Yeah, I’m still eating my feelings about that one. Someone hide the ice cream….But I have had time to reflect and I found some HUGE positive points, and some things to improve on next year. Right out of college I didn’t even make it past the first stage of QSchool. Last year, I made it to the second stage AND through the four day cut. If I keep improving at this pace, next season I will be through that four day cut and on to the LPGA tour! So I should feel confident about this year.
I’m in Orlando without my parents and won’t be traveling with them much this season either. They have been so wonderful! But it’s time I take control of my own game and make things happen for myself. My dad will still come to caddy every once in a while, and mom will be behind the ropes as always! But I’ll be traveling with my friend, Carmen Bandea. I’m sure we’ll have a great time together hitting different cities and taking wrong turns all over the place. DO NOT forget the GPS, Carmen!!
I have already come so far with my golf game, but I plan on doing things differently this year.
If I ever decided to write a book, I hope it would be about 2010: the year that changed everything.
