Duramed FUTURES Tour Rookie
Hey, first of all let m
e introduce myself.
My name it Rachel Connor also know as Chill. I am 19 years old and I am from Manchester England .
This year I am a rookie on the LPGA Duramed Futures Tour, I am so excited to be writing for the Ladies on the Tee golf site and updating you on day to day life in Chill’s world and on Tour. I’ll be posting pictures, blogs and videos as well as answering all the questions that you guys want to pose.
Here’s a little bit about me: I have two brothers Scott who is 23 and Nicholas who is 10. I come from a golfing family, my father and brother Scott are PGA Professionals at Manchester Golf Club back in the UK , Nick is also a great little golfer and my mum Geraldine holds us all together.
I started playing golf at the age of 10 and played casually up until the age of 12 when I was runner up in the English U13 Championship. Then I decided that golf was what I wanted to do in life, so from the age of 13 up until turning professional at 19 I represented my country England across Europe .
At the end of 2009 I decided to turn professional, I received my P1 Visa and left my home in the UK for America to train and better my game at the IMG David Leadbetter Academy in Bradenton, Florida. At the IMG Academy we leave nothing to chance, we train on the golf course or practice ground from 730am to 330pm and then end the day with an hour in IPI fitness training.
It is so good to have a fantastic team around me at IMG, my swing coach Gary Schied, fitness trainer Trevor Anderson and sports psychologist Cristian Smith do everything that they possibly can to help me improve my game – they are my dream team!
I live in Bradenton near the Academy and I use this as my base between tournaments.
LIFE ON TOUR – I totally didn’t know what to expect when I arrived on Tour. Everyone had told me that life on tour was different from amateur golf, the people, the places the traveling I had only been to Florida to play golf and on holiday when I first moved here and boy is this a big country! The distance between the UK and the US means that my family can only get out here every so often, which means that at the start of the year I was planning my year on the basis of travelling alone. I have to admit that this was a scary prospect but I have teamed up with a few of the Futures Tour girls now and we’re trying to make plans to travel together – the girls on Tour are a great bunch.
My first tournament was in Lake Region, Florida and I just about made the cut which was nerve racking I remember that my putting stroke seemed totally out of sync but I didn’t have time to go back to my coach before the next event which was the River Nayarit Challenge in Mexico. Unfortunately, I missed the cut there and then moved on to the Daytona Beach Invitational….which I will tell you about next time:-)
I look forward to keeping you all up to date with my progress – please contact me through Ladies on the Tee if you have any questions.
Until next time
Chill x
