LPGA Futures Rookie Stacey Miller

The Miller Family

While covering this past week’s LPGA Futures Tour in Mason, OH, I met 20 year-old Stacey Miller.  Stacey is a rookie this year with the Teva Championship being only the second tour event of her young career.  Her first event was the week before in Iowa at the Ladies Titan Tire Challenge in Marion, IA where she missed her first professional cut.  That was not the case in Mason, OH. She made the cut and earned her first professional golf check of $960 with a tie for 42nd place.

Stacey calls Bloomington, IL home.  She recently graduated with a Business Management degree     from Illinois State University.  She travels with her mom, Mary and her dad, Terry who also serves as her caddy on tour.

It was important to Stacey to finish her degree and get some additional collegiate experience under her belt before heading out to the ‘grinds’ of the Futures Tour in quest of an LPGA Tour card.

Here is her record to date:

  • Competed in two U.S. Women’s Amateur Championships (2008, 2010)
  • Recorded four wins in collegiate competition while at Illinois State University
  • Three-time Missouri Valley All-Conference Team selection (2008-2010)
  • 2011 Ladies Titan Tire Challenge – missed cut
  • 2011 Teva Championship – T42

She was very gracious on the course making just a few rookie mistakes.  I was able to film the fun side of her in the article “ Having Fun at The Teva”.  Best wishes to Stacey for the rest of the season!

Thanks for visiting Ladies on the Tee at www.sherrytabb.com .  If you have pictures and stories of other LPGA or Futures players, feel free to send them my way.  These great young women deserve our support and attention.

LPGA Futures Tour Rookie, Stacey Miller and fellow competitor, Sue Kim spend some time tossing almonds to each other (courtesy of LPGA player, Angela Buzminski) during a wait on the 8th tee box at this year’s Teva Championship.  Just goes to show that these girls want to have some fun!!!

It’s that time of year here in Southwestern OH…the women of the LPGA Futures Tour are back in town (Mason, OH) for the Teva Championship.  All 150 of them will be playing for the top spot on the leaderboard at The Golf Center at Kings Island.  This year’s purse is $135,000, one of the top prize purses on the regular tour stops.

We love it when these fine athletes come to town.  The only drawback is finding ways to inform the public and get the local news media on board to get more fans out to see present and future stars of the LPGA.  If you are anywhere near the area or know golf fans who are please make plans to come out starting this Friday, June 10th thru Sunday, June 12th for one of the top stops on the LPGA Futures Tour.  We want to make sure they keep coming back and that requires community interest to attract and keep sponsors.

Children are free so make sure you bring sons, daughters, nieces, nephews, neighbors kids etc….and come out and watch some of the finest women’s golf in the area.

As the event gets started I will be posting pictures and some videos to share some of the action for those of you who can’t make it in personSmile Until then…..hope to see you on the links!

Thanks for visiting Ladies on the Tee at www.sherrytabb.com.  Hope you’ll come back soon!

For those that have been following Ladies on the Tee since the beginning, it is probably apparent that I sometimes take a less than reverent look at the goings-on in the world of golf.  Don’t get me wrong.  I am quite respectful of the history of the game and the pioneers that got us to this point in time.   But let’s face it…golf is JUST a game!!

Having said that, when I was offered copies of Bobby Rusher’s two books, How to line Up Your Fourth Putt and When To Regrip Your Ball Retriever, to read and review I jumped on the offer.

These books would be right up my alley.  After all, I do adhere to that wonderful old adage…’if you can’t have fun stay home’ or something like that.  Rusher has put together some very funny, a la, irreverent advice for all of us duffers.

One thing I will say is that men might find some of the humor funnier than women.  I say that because there were sections in both books where I was shaking my head thinking how my male golf partners would be rolling on the ground laughing but I found those sections moderately slapsticky.  The rest of the content was well –delivered and full of comic thoughts and statements.

Bottom line is I would really encourage everyone, male and female. to grab copies of these books and even Rusher’s music CD, ‘Music to Shank By The Mighty Mulligans’.  There are way too many amateurs that tend to take the game too seriously and really need to lighten up.  These products will be the perfect release to help you put things in perspective and maybe even lighten up enough to have some fun and who knows….maybe even play better golfSmile

Here is the backdrop of how all of this got started.  Thought you might enjoy this light-hearted banter:

One of golf’s most frustrating and compelling components is the ability, or in most cases, the inability to shape your shots. What?? Do you mean people can actually move the ball in different ways outside of slicing directly into the woods?? Say it isn’t so!!

Most women do not give this a second thought and I think that is a mistake. Adding another dimension to your game may take your enjoyment to a whole new level. I am not talking about adding hundreds of yards to your distance. Let’s keep it real. This is about knowing how to execute shots to get you out of trouble and potentially add a few extra yards to your shot as well. Nothing wrong with that in my book!

This year my goal is to work on adding a draw (intentionally) to my game. Up to this point it has seemed so complicated and requires sooo much practice time I couldn’t imagine working that time into my schedule.

Recently, a couple of friends of mine have introduced a 21-day, step-by-step program to teach average golfers how to draw the ball. It is The Draw Blueprint. The beauty of it is that so much of the practice may be done from the comfort of your home.

I like the program so much I agreed to help them get the word out. I invite you to check it out at http://www.drawtheball.com. No sense in me having all the fun this season:-)

Thanks for visiting Ladies on the Tee at www.sherrytabb.com. Let’s show off our swing talents this year!

A rather tardy Happy New Year to you!  My apologies for my lengthy absence in posting here on Ladies on the Tee.  I would like to bring you up to date with what has transpired since we last connected.

Bear with me if you will and let me go back in time a bit before I get to the more recent events.  Many of you have been with me since the launch of LOTT over two years ago.  I thank you so much for your loyalty!!  The intent of this blog initially was to bring a higher awareness of the benefits of golf networking to women in business.  I saw very early on that this blog needed to be much more encompassing.  The goal was refocused to striving to get more women worldwide involved in the game for whatever reason not just business.

golfballsmile-smallMy personal introduction to the game was an accident.  It was in 1995 and I was rehabbing my right shoulder after surgery.  My passion sport then was tennis.  I am a former Tennis Head Professional and absolutely loved playing, teaching and competing.  While in the surgical recovery process before being released to play tennis again, I was asked to play in a golf scramble.  Prior to that I may have held a golf club 2 or 3 times in my life.  The game of golf was not on my radar!!

Well, that scramble opened my eyes to a sport I knew would be part of my future.  I had great success that day, mostly due to the fact that I could not take a full swing or swing hard for that matter due to my shoulder limitations.  The game seemed simple to me then and I was hooked.  What was all of the fuss about control and hitting the ball where you wanted it to go??  Seemed easy to me.

What a simpleton, I was!!
